College and Career Team at The Sycamore School

Overview

At The Sycamore School, our College and Career Team is dedicated to helping students find their unique paths beyond high school. We understand that college is not the only option and believe in meeting students where they are, providing various pathways that suit individual interests and strengths. Our goal is to offer a diverse array of opportunities to ensure every student can pursue a future that aligns with their personal goals and aspirations.

Graduation Requirements

  • Two years of a second language
  • Two years of Movement & Mindfulness or a PE class
  • Career Exploration Class
  • Personal Finance Class

High School students must successfully Complete an Academic Capstone Project. A capstone project is a way for students to demonstrate the culmination of skills and knowledge gained through their academic career by completing a long-term, multi-faceted project. Students should select a topic, project, or problem that resonates with them. The project includes conducting research, developing a portfolio and producing a final product, presentation, and defense. 

  • 100 hours of community service OR
  • 50 hours of community service and a community service project

Throughout high school, students upload samples of their work, or artifacts, to create a portfolio. A portfolio must contain at least two artifacts from different disciplines that demonstrate mastery of a competency. Spring of their senior year, students present their portfolios to a panel of evaluators who are typically staff or members of the community. 

  • Externship, job, shadow day, informational interviews, and/or volunteering
  • Complete a resume
