Job Summary
The Sycamore School, a mastery-based learning school, is seeking a part-time ASL Teacher. This job requires teaching an ASL elective class that is composed of up to ten high school students four days a week. Additional responsibilities include completing quarterly reports documenting student progress and maintaining regular communication with parents.
Responsibilities
- Teach an ASL high school elective class
- Create an ASL curriculum that addresses the Virginia Standards of Learning
- Classroom activities should focus on conversation skills and align with school’s philosophy of providing inquiry based, self-paced, experiential learning.
- Track and document student progress
- Complete quarterly narrative reports and identify skills addressed
- Maintain regular communication with parents
- Build positive relationships with students and staff
- Collaborate effectively with staff
Qualifications and Skills
Skills Needed
- Proficient in ASL
- Proficient in English – strong written and verbal skills
- Tech savvy, including proficiency using Google Classroom, Google Docs and Google Sheets
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to give and take feedback effectively
- Friendly, reliable, accountable and trustworthy
- Can work independently or as a team
- Flexible and calm under pressure
- Ethical, honest and has high integrity
- Respects confidentiality
- Reliable – shows up to class on time; advanced notice of absences
Education and other qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Fluent in American Sign Language
- Experience in classroom management
- Previous teaching experience
