Description of Talk:
Dr. Deborah Stroman, an entrepreneur and instructor at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health, will provide an analysis and historical context to structural racism in the United States. The What? Now What? and So What? continues to haunt and disturb social justice advocates who operate within or partner with institutions. This session is designed to spark curiosity, foster dialogue, and present a clear understanding of the individual and organizational challenges of racial healing and collaborative decision-making. In addition, the importance of language and communication will be addressed to foster understanding and belonging in organizations. Dr. Stroman has more than 30+ years of experience and practice in leadership strategies and race and racism analysis. She teaches racial equity curriculum as a core faculty member of the Health Equity, Social Justice, and Human Rights graduate program.
