Intentionally Small School Community
In order to provide an effective personalized, integrated and engaging education, our learning community is intentionally small. Our charter class will be between 20-30 students. Our inaugural class will include 6-8th grades and we will expand with our students through 12th grade. We will cap at 210 students with a max of 30 students per grade. The Sycamore School has rolling admissions, so we accept students throughout the school year, depending on current class sizes. Below outlines our admissions process.
STEP 1 – PARENT & STUDENT INTERVIEW
If you are interested in enrolling your child for the 2017-2018 school year, please call 703-350-8197 to set up an interview with Karyn Ewart, our Head of School. A parent and child interview is required but can be done in one or two visits. Some parents prefer to do the initial interview alone and others prefer to have both interviews done during the same visit. Either option is fine. The interview process allows families to learn more about the Sycamore School, ask questions and determine whether the school is a good fit for their child. Afterwards, if you are interested in going forward with the application process, please complete the on-line application and provide the requested documents.
STEP 2 – APPLICATION
After the interview, if you wish to apply for enrollment, you will need to submit the following application materials:
- A completed application form
- Authorization for Exchange of Information Form
- Copies of recent academic records/current transcript
- Copies of educational assessments and other relevant evaluations
- Student work samples
- A recent small photograph of the applicant, attached to the application
- Non-Refundable application fee of $100.00 payable to The Sycamore School
- Two Confidential Teacher Feedback forms (at least one from a current teacher) emailed directly to the school by the teacher.
STEP 3 – OPTIONAL SCHOOL OBSERVATION
If parents are interested, we offer the opportunity for our Head of School to observe your child in his/her current school setting, to get a sense of current academic functioning level and overall learning needs.
STEP 4 – NOTIFICATION
Once all application documents are submitted, we review the application carefully to determine whether your child will be a good fit with The Sycamore School and would benefit from our program. We will inform you of our admission decision within two weeks. Once you return the enrollment form, with a $1,000 non-refundable deposit, your child will be officially enrolled for the desired school year. The deposit will be applied to your tuition.
